Visentry Legal
AI, Camera Use, and Allocation of Responsibility Notice
This notice explains how Visentry must be used safely and lawfully in home and business settings and forms an integral part of the Terms of Use.
Last updated: October 8, 2026
This document provides general information and draft contract terms. Your enterprise agreement may contain different provisions.
1. Scope and acceptance
This notice applies to individuals and organizations using the Visentry software, camera connections, face matching, event detection, alerts, recording, and reporting features. A person using the service for an organization represents that they have the required authority.
The fact that the service can be accessed or installed over the internet does not mean that a particular use is lawful or authorized. Users must comply with the laws applicable in their country and deployment location, building or community rules, and third-party rights.
2. Nature of AI outputs
Face-match, person or event detection, and alert outputs are statistical and probabilistic. They are not conclusive proof of identity, an offence, a violation, or an event. The system may produce false positives, false negatives, delayed results, or missed detections.
Accuracy may vary with camera angle and height, face size in the frame, lighting, motion, resolution, compression, occlusion, age and quality of the reference image, threshold settings, connectivity, and hardware. Visentry does not guarantee 100% accuracy, uninterrupted detection, or an alert in every circumstance.
3. Mandatory human verification
Before acting on a match or alert, the user must have an authorized person review the source image, context, timestamp, and other available evidence. An output must not be used on its own to accuse a person, deny access, terminate employment, impose discipline, report a person to law enforcement, or make a legal or similarly significant decision.
People affected by a possible false match must be offered a way to contest the result and obtain a new review. Visentry does not replace emergency dispatch, law enforcement, professional security personnel, or a human decision-maker. In an emergency, the user must contact the appropriate official emergency service.
4. Camera placement and field of view
The physical installation, direction, field of view, and audio settings of a camera are controlled by the user or camera owner. Users must capture only what is necessary and, where possible, minimize collection through privacy masks, cropping, field-of-view controls, and appropriate retention settings.
If a street, pavement, neighboring property, shared area, off-premises area, or private living space enters the frame, the user must assess that coverage before activation, remove or mask unnecessary areas, and provide any required permission, legal basis, warning sign, and detailed notice. Home use may fall outside a personal or household exemption where a camera captures a public space or neighboring property.
5. Biometric data and reference lists
Face images and face templates derived from them may be sensitive or special-category personal data. For every person record, the user is responsible for identifying a valid legal basis, providing the required notice, collecting separate and demonstrable explicit consent where required, honoring withdrawals, and deleting the data when the purpose ends.
Reference lists must be accurate, current, purpose-limited, and accessible only to authorized people. Less intrusive alternatives and additional safeguards must be considered for children, employees, visitors, and people who may not be practically free to consent.
6. Prohibited and unsupported uses
- Covert monitoring or biometric identification without the required legal basis or notice.
- Inferring race, ethnic origin, health, religion, political opinion, sexual orientation, emotion, or similar sensitive traits, or discriminating on those grounds.
- Criminal, disciplinary, employment, or similarly significant decisions based on an AI output with no real human review.
- Uses requiring statutory law-enforcement or public-authority powers, and real-time remote biometric identification in public spaces where prohibited by applicable law.
- Unauthorized access to another person's account, camera, footage, or person record, or use for harassment, stalking, coercion, or unlawful profiling.
7. Responsibilities by deployment model
In a Customer-managed/on-premises deployment, the Customer is responsible for servers, networks, physical security, backups, updates, access management, and selected transfer routes. In a Visentry-managed cloud deployment, Visentry is responsible for the platform and infrastructure controls it assumes by contract; the Customer remains responsible for camera placement, user permissions, person lists, purpose, legal basis, and retention choices.
An outage, delay, or policy change affecting Ring, a camera or NVR vendor, an internet provider, an identity provider, or another third-party service may affect Visentry functionality. The relevant third party's terms also apply.
8. Consequences of user violations
Subject to mandatory law and Visentry's responsibility for its own fault, the user is responsible for consequences arising from unlawful camera placement, unnecessary capture of streets or neighboring areas, missing permission, notice or consent, unauthorized reference lists, unsupported configurations, failure to protect credentials, or action taken on an AI output without human verification.
On discovering a violation or false match, the user must stop the relevant action, restrict access, preserve necessary records, and notify the controller, Visentry, or competent authority without undue delay where applicable.
9. Warranty and liability boundaries
Except for commitments expressly stated in an order form or written enterprise agreement, Visentry is provided as available to the extent permitted by applicable law. Visentry does not warrant fitness for a particular legal purpose, flawless operation with every camera or environment, detection of every event, or prevention of every loss.
To the extent permitted by law, Visentry is not liable for loss caused by the user's unlawful installation or use, failure to conduct required human review, third-party services, unsupported hardware or configurations, or failure to follow instructions and security measures. Any monetary liability cap for an enterprise Customer is stated in the signed master agreement or order form, if applicable.
10. Non-excludable rights and contact
This notice does not exclude liability for Visentry's intentional misconduct, gross negligence, its own data-protection or information-security duties, or any other liability that cannot legally be limited. Mandatory consumer warranty, compensation, redress, and other statutory rights remain unaffected. If one provision is invalid, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
